Credit Maximums and Minimums

Fall & Spring Semesters:

  • The maximum amount of credits an NYU student can enroll in is 18 credits.
  • To be considered a full time student you must be enrolled in at least 12 credits.
  • International students who receive their visa through NYU are required to be enrolled full time.

January Term:

  • The maximum amount of credits an NYU student can enroll in is 4 credits.
  • To be considered a full time student you must be enrolled in at least 3 credits if earning credit OR at least 18 hours of class per week if taking non-credit courses.
  • International students who receive their visa through NYU are required to attend full time.

Summer Term:

  • The maximum amount of credits an NYU student can enroll in is 16 credits during a twelve-week session, 8 credits during a six-week session and 3 credits during a three-week session.
  • To be considered a full time student you must be enrolled in at least 12 credits during a twelve-week session, 6 credits for a six-week session, and at least 3 credits for a three-week session if earning credit. Students taking non-credit courses must be in class at least 18 hours per week to be full time.
  • International students who receive their visa through NYU are required to attend full time.
