The visiting student advising team is available for admitted students whenever they have questions or need help with course registration, pre-arrival preparations, navigating the University or city during your term, and getting the most out of time at NYU.
Whenever you have a question, do not hesitate to contact your advisors at email@example.com.
ASSISTANT DIRECTOR OF ADVISING
Shannon is the primary advisor for all visiting students on campus. She oversees course enrollment, registration, and event planning for the Office of University Programs. She also serves as a professor of voice in the Steinhardt school where she teaches non-major private voice lessons. Shannon is an NYU alumna of the Steinhardt School, where she received a Bachelors of Music and a Master of Arts in Educational Theater. She has been working in higher education for over eight years. Originally from Great Neck Long Island, Shannon now lives in Murray Hill (Manhattan) with her husband and their five-year-old Shih Tzu Yorkie mixed terrier, Griffin. Shannon’s favorite things to do in New York are see as much theater as possible and sing at Marie’s Crisis, a piano bar in the West Village.
DIRECTOR OF UNIVERSITY PROGRAMS
Kristin oversees the general academic and student life experience for visiting student programs. She is an NYU alumna of the Tisch School, has a graduate degree from Queen’s University Belfast, and has been working in higher education for over ten years. Kristin was raised in a small Wisconsin town (with one stoplight and many cows), but she now calls Brooklyn (with its many stoplights and her one cat) her home. Her favorite thing to do in New York is walk around watching one neighborhood melt into another. She highly recommends a walk across the Brooklyn Bridge followed by pizza from Grimaldi’s eaten in Brooklyn Bridge Park (bring your camera!)
ASSISTANT ADVISOR (GRAD INTERN)
Mary assists Shannon and Kristin with student advising, both during walk-in hours and via email. She also manages University Programs’ social media communications, including the Facebook group, biweekly newsletter, and the Fall in NY blog. When not in the UP office, Mary is a full-time English MA student here at NYU GSAS, working with medieval texts. Having graduated Fordham University in 2012, Mary went on to teach 9th and 10th grade English at a private school in Bergen County, New Jersey, where she also served as the yearbook advisor and chaperone for the annual Europe trip. She moved to the Upper East Side one year ago and is thrilled to be back in NYC. Her favorite coffee shops are Joe on 8th street (downtown) and Irving Farms on 80th and 3rd Ave (uptown).
